Chainlink Labs, the group creating the worldwide norm that encourages blockchain application, declared today that Eric Schmidt, ex-Google CEO, has become a strategic consultant to guide the squad striving to construct a world governed by accuracy.
Blockchains and the smart contracts they contain are not capable of interfacing with real-world data and systems. Chainlink resolves this issue by utilizing oracle networks that collect and combine information from the outside world to activate smart contracts operating on blockchains. This Chainlink Network, made up of independent node operators such as T-Systems, Swisscom, the Associated Press, etc., has activated and safeguarded more than $80 billion worth of assets held within smart contracts and applications on various widely used blockchains.
“Blockchain networks and Chainlink oracles are at a crucial inflection point in terms of growth and adoption. Eric’s experience and insights around building global software platforms for next-generation innovation will be invaluable as we help developers and institutions usher in a new age of economic fairness and transparency.”
– Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov
Schmidt is a business leader and software engineer who was the chief executive officer of Google from 2001 to 2011. During that time, he was responsible for transforming the company from a Silicon Valley startup into one of the most influential technology companies in the world. He oversaw Google’s expansion, its $23 billion IPO, and the introduction of several widely-used products such as Gmail, Google Maps, Chrome, Adsense and Fiber. Additionally, Schmidt also led Google’s acquisition of YouTube and Android as well as held positions as chairman at both the Department of Defense’s Innovation board and National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence up until 2015.
He has been a member of the boards of Alphabet, Apple, Princeton University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Mayo Clinic.
Schmidt is the co-founder of Schmidt Futures and chairman of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, as well as other projects. He recently co-authored a book entitled ‘The Age of AI: And Our Human Future’ with Henry A. Kissinger, former U. S. Secretary of State, and Daniel Huttenlocher, a computer scientist.
“The launch of blockchains and smart contracts has demonstrated tremendous potential for the building of new business models, but it has become clear that one of blockchain’s greatest advantages — a lack of connection to the world outside itself — is also its biggest challenge. Chainlink is a secret ingredient to unlocking the potential of smart contract platforms and revolutionizing business and society. I am excited to be helping the Chainlink Labs team build a world powered by truth.”

Recently, Chainlink unveiled the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), a universal and open standard that allows developers to design secure services and applications that permit communication, token transfer, and activity initiation amongst multiple networks. As a blockchain agnostic system, Chainlink stands at the hub of what is becoming an ever-growing multi-blockchain ecosystem.
